Moving day can often come around before you know it, and you may find yourself in the slightly stressful situation of having to move in a hurry. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s our top tips for how to efficiently pack up your house with minimal stress, in 48 hours!

Packing supplies

First thing’s first you’re going to need cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, scissors, packing tape and labels or a black marker pen. You often need more boxes than you think so make sure not to under order or you’ll end up losing time having to source more!

It’s always worth keeping an eye out on websites such as Free Cycle for free moving supplies, after all one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Alternatively, you can always as your local suppermarket for any spare boxes they might have finished with.

Declutter

If ever there was a time to have a good clear out, it’s now.

Decluttering is essential to a swift move as you’ll have less to pack pre move and to unpack post move. Don’t be afraid to be ruthless, if you haven’t used or worn it in the past 6 months chances are it will sit in your new house gathering dust and taking up valuable space! Garage sales, charity shops or giving away to friends and family are great ways to get rid of unwanted items.

Call for back up

packing up an entire house is a big task especially if you don’t have time on your hands, so now’s the time to ask friends for a helping hand or hire professional packers, the more hands on deck the better.

Make a plan

Avoid wasting time running from room to room throwing random objects in boxes as you go. Doing this will guarantee you’ll end up with disorganized boxes which will be tricky to unpack on the other side. Instead, start from your toughest rooms and pack your heavy and bulky items first, before moving onto the bits and bobs, and keep one room reserved as a packing station to help keep the rest of the house clutter-free and easily accessible.

Eliminate distractions

If, like the majority of us, you often find yourself mindlessly reaching for your phone to have a scroll through Instagram or checking out the latest Tik Tok videos, put the phone on silent and in another room (just don’t accidentally pack it away to never be seen again!). Additionally, if you have little ones or furry friends to look after, hire a pair of extra helping hands to look after them so you can focus on the job at hand.

And finally, good luck!
