Crucially, Stamp Duty remained untouched, meaning people planning a move are unaffected, and it is firmly business as usual for the vast majority of transactions. Furthermore, the initial financial market reaction to the Budget was muted, with long-term gilt rates—which ultimately impact mortgage rates—seeing a downward trend. YouConvey therefore does not expect any adverse change to the Bank of England base rate or mortgage rates, reinforcing market stability.
While a new “wealth tax” on properties above £2 million will impact some at the very upper end, it affects only a very small percentage of the UK housing stock and will not disrupt the wider market.
